Crockett County Ranch News: No Burn Ban After Late-October Flood Watches Near Ozona

After flood watches and flash flooding in late October, Crockett County entered the Nov. 7 deer opener without a burn ban on the state fire feed. Lee, Lee & Puckitt (LLP Ranchland) is a San Angelo-based ranch Broker serving Ozona and Crockett County, and we lined up the rain notes, burn status, white-tailed and mule deer dates, and West Texas land figures landowners are asking about.

Rain and Flood Watches Around Ozona

The National Weather Service in San Angelo issued a Flood Watch for Crockett County (along with Irion, Kimble, Schleicher and Sutton) for Oct. 29 and 30, 2026, calling for 2 to 4 inches of rain likely and isolated totals over 6 inches. Earlier in October, local Fire and EMS posts mirrored through public aggregators described a flash flood warning in southeast Crockett on Oct. 1 and about 1.2 inches of rain on the north side of Ozona on Oct. 8. Those reports are secondary mirrors of local posts, so treat the NWS Flood Watch wording as the firmer public record. Cownty’s Nov. 3 map showed Crockett in D0 abnormally dry, a lighter category than many West Texas neighbors.

No Burn Ban as of Nov. 7

BurnBanTexas, updated Nov. 7, 2026, at 5:00 AM CST from Texas A&M Forest Service data, showed no burn ban for Crockett County. Several neighbors still had bans that morning, including Crane, Reagan, Schleicher, Sutton, Terrell and Upton. Even without a county ban, outdoor burning has to follow TCEQ rules, and conditions can change fast in Edwards Plateau brush.

Deer and Mule Deer Calendar

White-tailed deer in Crockett County are North Zone. The bag is five deer, no more than two bucks. Archery ran Oct. 3 through Nov. 6. General season runs Nov. 7, 2026, through Jan. 3, 2027, with a special late season Jan. 4 through 17 for antlerless and unbranched antlered bucks. Mule deer follow Trans-Pecos dates: archery through Nov. 26, then general season Nov. 27 through Dec. 13, with a one-buck bag for all seasons. Fall turkey in the North Zone runs Nov. 7 through Jan. 3. Quail season is Nov. 1 through Feb. 28.

What West Texas Land Data Shows

Texas A&M’s Texas Real Estate Research Center places Crockett County in West Texas. In second quarter 2026 that region averaged $3,008 an acre, up 14.29 percent year over year, with 533 sales, a typical tract of 409 acres and $229.26 million in dollar volume. Those are regional averages. In Ozona country, water, sheep and cattle carrying capacity, and hunting quality still move price more than a region-wide mean.
